PRIVATE SESSION WITH ALEXA SILVAGGIO

BOOK. ALEXA. NOW. (WHILE YOU STILL CAN)

by inspiredinbrooklyn on March 12, 2015

I'm a 39 year old entrepreneur who has been practicing yoga regularly for about 12 years. I've had the privilege of many a fine yoga teacher throughout the country. My fitness background is somewhat mixed: high school athlete, US Navy Rescue Swimmer and a recent Black Belt in Hapkido. My current routine is a mix of Yoga and Cross Fit. Fitness background aside, I don't tend to write reviews. In this instance, I just have to. I had the privilege of a one-on-one session with Alexa in my home. The first adjective that comes to mind is 'special.'  She is. Truly. She's as intuitive as she is skilled and as skilled as she is caring.  She teaches from the heart and from a place of genuine vulnerability. The session was appropriately intense (she took the time to ask me about my needs beforehand) and the time flew. At the end of the session I felt reborn and ready to conquer the rest of my day. I'm, of course, back for more and more. I don't know if she has any space left for privates, but if she does, dive on it!  You can thank me later :-)  Namaste!

RESOLUTION RETREAT WITH ALEXA SILVAGGIO @ THETRAVELYOGI

ONE OF THE MOST REWARDING EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE

by Katie Sheridan on March 9, 2015

Alexa lead a retreat I went on in Mexico earlier this year. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and I attribute that mostly to Alexa. She was warm and inviting the second I met her and that was before we even got into Yoga. Her warmth carries into her teachings which always lead to a fun, non-judgement, motivating, and rewarding class. She is now someone that I feel more than comfortable asking questions and sharing my progression with. I will most definitely do another Yoga retreat as long as Alexa is leading it.

EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT DURING YOUR PRACTICE

by Antoinette Rodriguez Gerring on March 9, 2015

I couldn't have asked for a better instructor to lead a week long retreat! Alexa was very welcoming and open to everyone on the first day, regardless of experience. She has such a divine presence and her calming voice is exactly what you want during your practice. It's been difficult to find an instructor that possesses the same qualities to create such a peaceful environment. I'm counting down the days that I can be blessed to take another one her classes! PS...the daily back crackings were a huge plus :)

VINYASA YOGA WITH ALEXA SILVAGGIO @ EQUINOX

NOT A REGULAR YOGA GOER BUT NOW I MIGHT BE

by Classylady on January 25, 2015

Yoga is not really my thing. I like interval training classes but thought I'd try and do more yoga for 2015. I was dreading going to the class but actually really enjoyed it. She didn't make yoga so intimidating. She was very knowledgable and I felt really good after the class. She took the time to explain vinyasa to us beginners. I'd like to see her do the exercises with us next time. I couldn't tell if my knee should be bent or straight in certain positions. Overall her class will help me keep my goal for 2015.

My week with Alexa Silvagio and a beautiful group of yogis at Prana Del Mar was the most perfect way to start 2015, and one of the most perfect weeks I've had anywhere, ever. Thanks {to} The Travel Yogi for bringing together the most gorgeous yoga instructor, a great group of people and the most wonderful location for a blissfully relaxing, fun-filled, healthy and inspiring week.

VINYASSA FLOW WITH ALEXA SILVAGGIO @ EQUINOX

MY MIND IS FOREVER CHANGED

by Burner10941 on July 8, 2014

I cannot urge you enough to take this amazing young woman's yoga class. I have only been practicing once or twice a week for about 18 months now. I am by no means any kind of expert. But I practice. And I continue to practice because of Alexa's classes. Her knowledge and serenity radiate throughout a room and make me want to try my hardest not only with the physical poses but with my mental meditation as well.  No matter what my day has been like before I hit the mat, I ALWAYS leave in a better mood. Please, please, please do yourself the kindest favor and take Alexa's class.

ALEXA IS AMAZING!

by Fierce on July 7, 2014

Alexa's yoga class is one of the best I have ever attended.  She is radiant, strong, and a mindful teacher.  She leads a traditional Vinyasa, with positions that definitely build strength and grace.  I left the class challenged, yet relaxed and with a renewed spirit.  A good balance between positive message and very athletic approach.

TRULY OUTSTANDING

by Burner10938 on July 7, 2014

This class was truly outstanding, as are all of Alexa's classes.  These are a few of my favorite things about taking class from her:

1. A calm and comfortable environment from start to finish.  Alexa beautifully taps into the spiritual elements of yoga in a way that always helps center my breath, refocus my day, and refresh my soul.

2. Excellent at teaching to all the students in the room.  Alexa is inviting to new students while helping familiar students grow in areas of their practice on which they have been focusing.  She honors the parameters of the class style and level, but gives students of all levels opportunities to succeed and grow in her class.  Alexa does a beautiful job of encouraging a non-competitive mindset and helps me focus on what is best for my body and my practice that day -- a rare find in the world if NYC yoga!  For many poses, she fully demonstrates several options at varying levels and genuinely encourages everyone to work at the level that best serves their own practice.

3.  Her sequences are creative and keep me interested and excited to come back...

4.  ...but she is also excellent at digging into the basics and taking time to focus on small details that have improved my technique in a way no other teacher has taken the time to do.  Alexa's verbal cues are very specific and have helped me become more aware of how to use my body correctly, both in class and in life.  She gives excellent physical adjustments that have completely altered the way I feel poses.  Even when I am taking other classes or practicing on my own, I am constantly thinking of the way Alexa explains a pose, movement, or section of class.  Alexa's wonderful knowledge and attention to detail has greatly improved my yoga skills.

5. Fabulous music!  Never distracting, but it's always perfectly matched to her sequences and never fails to make me smile.

FAVORITE YOGA CLASS IN NYC

by Burner91054 on July 7, 2014

Alexa is a remarkable and inspiring teacher. Her classes are not merely a physical workout, but help foster a connection between the mind and body through breath work, mantras, and all of the incredibly wise anecdotes Alexa shares during class. On top of this, Alexa's sequences in her vinyasa class are creative and smart (I think she has a significant background in dance), and her music selections are always fun (I've heard many people compliment her music post class). She is a kind teacher, gives great adjustments, and I've never felt anything but comfort in her classes. Most importantly, I always leave her class feeling refreshed. I take her class religiously and would recommend it to anyone interested in yoga or who already has a yoga practice. Of the teachers I've taken from in NYC (and I take quite a bit of yoga), Alexa is hands down my favorite.

CAN'T RECOMMEND HER MORE!

by Burner91052 on July 7, 2014

Alexa is a wonderful teacher. She exudes joy and acceptance and you can really feel it while in class with her. She truly listens to the needs of the group and responds perfectly. Her music choices are eclectic, super-fun, and still very relaxing. She brings a great wit to her practice and doesn't take anything too seriously, while still respecting the work being done. Such a breath of fresh air. Can't recommend her more!

BEST PART OF MY WEEK!

by Burner9025 on March 20, 2014

Alexa is a phenomenal, approachable, warm, fun, and inspiring instructor with a great energy. I recommend her and her Slow Flow class in particular for yogis of all levels. Her Slow Flow class is well attended but never uncomfortably packed and she will walk the room throughout so you never have a "bad" spot. She doesn't really give too many adjustments but she is very clear in her direction and may mention to the whole class if she is noticing some alignment issues overall. She always offers variations and really emphasizes form over flexibility. Her music is always great and she exudes positivity while also remaining very real. She manages to be an enviable yogi while still remaining relatable and very down to earth. The class is a welcome reprieve from the work week and purposefully moves as a slower pace than most yoga classes. If you are looking for a burn her Vinyasa classes are also great but I highly recommend Slow Flow for a relaxing way to loosen up, have some fun, and  even be a bit inspired.

YIN/YANG (OPEN) WITH ALEXA SILVAGGIO @ PURE YOGA

BARTENDER, MORE YIN PLEASE!

by Sandboxfitness on September 19, 2012

It's always fun to experiment and try new classes, especially when they're 90min yoga classes called Yin/Yang.  I had never been to Pure before and was blown away at how nice it was and how similar the ethetic was compared to Equinox.  I want to note that I had fallen asleep in a few yoga classes in my day, but not today!

On Class - Just like you would assume, there was 2 part of class.  Yang was the first part though that had us moving through Vinyasa and sequences to heat up our body.  This lasted roughly 45-50mins and think the room was heated somewhere 80-90 degrees.  It was all your basic Vinyasa movements done in a way that you felt an hour class would do jam-packed into a hotter, quicker 45.  Yin came next which I loved for a few reasons.  We slowed our bodies down to a screeching halt and held several postures for minutes (3-5) at a time.  Some of these were: pigeon, seated straddle, frog, inverted straddle to name a few.  This gave me time to focus on my body, feel the deep stretch, notice any imbalance, and relax.  I was falling back into my music festival days when holding pigeon for 5 minutes and hearing Dave Matthews, Police, Coldplay, Sinatra and more.

On Alexa - She was exactly what I expected and needed for a 90min class of this nature; warm, friendly, and full of words of wisdom.  She seemed to know most of her members which is always a good sign when walking into a new class.  She asked us in the beginning if we didn't want to be adjusted, but I welcome those little helpers to get deeper in my poses.  Personally, just adjusted in a innocent yet helpful way really made the class for me.  She referenced a quote which in Shavasana which went something like, "To skip shavasana would be like cooking the most amazing meal ever and not eating it, just looking at it".

It you get a chance truly try her out.  You will leave feeling better, stretched out, humble and maybe even get a hug on the way out.

Namaste
